Scalp Health and Hair Loss Support Behind the Chair

If you’ve been feeling like your hair has changed lately, you’re not imagining it. I hear this all the time behind the chair here in my Matthews studio. More shedding, less density, texture shifting, or your scalp just not feeling the way it used to. Most people assume they need new products or that it’s just age, but what I see over and over again is that the real story usually starts at the scalp, and often even deeper than that. Healthy hair doesn’t begin at the ends, it begins at the root. When the scalp is supported, hair has a much better chance of growing in stronger, fuller, and more resilient. When it’s not, that’s when we start to see thinning, irritation, buildup, and that overall feeling of “something is off.”

A big part of this is that hair is deeply connected to what’s happening inside the body. Stress, nutrient levels, inflammation, circulation, and hormone shifts can all show up through the scalp and hair. This is a big part of the work I do as a hairstylist and board-certified holistic trichologist. I’m not just looking at your hair, I’m looking at patterns. That’s why I’ve started bringing more scalp-focused and wellness-based support into the salon so we can go beyond just treating the hair and actually support the foundation it’s growing from.

Digital Scalp Analysis
It may not be pretty, and nothing that up close is, but seeing the hair, follicles, and scalp is so important. It allows me to see density, buildup of tissue or product, where viable pores can be found, if there is hair minituraziation and so much more. These changes that are not always visible otherwise, so we can make more informed decisions moving forward. (Advanced model on route for higher level evaluation)

Bio Scan Wellness Assessment
This takes things a step deeper by looking at internal stress patterns that may be influencing your hair. Things like nutrient status, inflammation, circulation, and hormone-related stress all play a role. Hair is never just about hair, and this helps connect those dots so we’re supporting your body as well as your scalp. This is also part of my trichology consultations and is necessary for understanding what support your body needs for optimal health.

Red Light Therapy Cap
Red light works at a cellular level within the follicle to support energy production and healthier growth cycles. It can be especially helpful for encouraging stronger regrowth and supporting areas where density may be changing over time.

Ozone Scalp Therapy
Ozone helps to oxygenate and refresh the scalp. It’s especially beneficial if your scalp feels tired, irritated, or out of balance, and it supports a cleaner, healthier environment for the follicle. It also kills bacteria and fungal overgrowth and can aid in wound healing.

High-Frequency Scalp Treatment
My high-frequency machine uses both red and violet light currents to support the scalp in different ways. The red light current helps stimulate circulation and bring more oxygen and nutrients to the follicle, while the violet current helps calm irritation and discourage microbial imbalance. Depending on what is going on with your scalp condition, I can use one or both to awaken your scalp. My clients say the scalp feels like it has more vitality after. And a little extra volume never hurts either

Relaxation Scalp Massage
I also include a scalp massage for all clients receiving a shampoo service. But this is an enhanced and slightly extended service. Releasing tension in the scalp improves circulation and also supports the nervous system, which directly impacts how the body prioritizes hair growth. It’s one of the easiest ways to support both your scalp and your overall stress levels. I can also take a few moments to educate you on at-home tips as well if you like. Just ask.

Scalp Detox Treatment
If your scalp has felt dry, itchy, irritated, or you would simply like a reset, this is often where I like to start. Buildup, excess oil, and impurities can block the follicle and limit results. When the scalp is clean and reset, everything else we do becomes more effective.

I may perform most of these during my trichology treatment protocols. But I wanted to find a way to offer a simple way to add targeted treatment to my salon clients as well. Many of these can be added onto your current appointment, or we can plan ahead so you have the time set aside. If you’ve been noticing thinning, shedding, or ongoing scalp concerns, this is where we can start. We have to start the conversation with understanding what’s going on and supporting your hair at the root.

If you’re local to Matthews, Charlotte, or nearby and are looking for a hair stylist who keeps your hair and scalp in mind, head to my home page and fill out my new guest form. As a current client who has had chats about some of your hair challenges, and if what you’re experiencing feels more complex or has been going on for a while, that’s when we shift into a trichology consultation. This is a dedicated one-hour appointment where I can really dig into your history, patterns, and lifestyle without distraction. From there, I review everything and build out a personalized treatment plan so we’re supporting your hair, your scalp, and your overall health in a much more targeted way.
